DeWine and Husted Skip Trump Rally: ‘They Knew They Would Be Held Accountable’

"Mike DeWine's first excuse was Ulysses S. Grant, then it was COVID, but what was Jon Husted's excuse?"

For the second time in less than a year, Mike DeWine and Jon Husted made their real feelings about President Trump clear - again - and declined to attend Saturday's Trump rally. Even before DeWine contracted COVID, he offered the laughable excuse that he had to attend an event commemorating Ulysses S. Grant's 200th birthday that even an Axios reporter mocked as an "all-timer." Husted, meanwhile, hasn't offered any reason at all as to why he didn't attend.

It doesn't matter what the excuse is: it's now clearer than ever that DeWine and Husted are no supporters of President Trump. In fact, DeWine recently said "I'm not going to go there" when asked whether he believed President Trump is a positive presence in American life.

Jim Renacci released the following statement:

"Mike DeWine's first excuse was Ulysses S. Grant, then it was COVID, but what was Jon Husted's excuse? We all know the answer. Neither of them wanted to be there because they knew they would be held accountable by Ohio conservatives for opposing President Trump and the MAGA movement every step of the way. The energy behind Trump and the America First agenda at Saturday's rally was incredible. Ohio Republicans are ready to elect a NEW governor who will actually fight for that agenda in Columbus and SUPPORT President Trump if he runs again in 2024!"
