Renacci: DeWine Signed Gun Bill in 11th Hour ‘Because He’s In Serious Trouble’

03/15/22

Mike DeWine hasn't changed, but his political calculations for his endangered re-election have.

Let's be clear: Mike DeWine only decided to sign the Constitutional Carry bill at the 11th hour, after waffling around and describing it as a "tough decision," because he knows he is in serious trouble with Ohio Republican primary voters. In contrast, true conservative Jim Renacci has repeatedly voiced his support for Constitutional Carry and pledged to sign it as governor last year

Why the silence from Mike DeWine? Simple: he doesn't truly believe in it. DeWine has a long, notorious record of selling out our Second Amendment freedoms to the gun-controlling left. When he was in Washington, Mike DeWine rightfully earned an 'F' rating from the NRA and was ranked as one of the top ten anti-gun Senators - the only Republican on the list - along with committed Leftists like Hillary Clinton, Chuck Schumer, Ted Kennedy, and John Kerry. Even now, Mike DeWine is still pushing his red flag law and gun control agenda, and doesn't consider gun rights to be a top priority

Mike DeWine hasn't changed, but his political calculations for his endangered re-election have. Every Ohio gun owner should rightfully be worried about what a second DeWine term would mean for their fundamental Second Amendment rights. Jim Renacci released the following statement in response:

"Ohio gun owners should make no mistake that the only reason DeWine decided at the 11th hour to sign this bill is because his re-election campaign is in serious trouble. He's a four-decade career politician who will say or do anything to get re-elected. He'd gleefully sign a bill trampling on the Second Amendment without skipping a beat, and Ohio gun owners are rightfully nervous about what a second DeWine term would mean for their freedoms. I would not have hesitated to sign this bill even for a moment, let alone view it as a 'tough decision' like DeWine did. Ohioans deserve far better than this--and that's why I'm committed to defeating DeWine and delivering the accountable conservative leadership we desperately need."
